On Friday, September 23rd, 2016 at 12:00 noon, the Standin’ On The Corner Park Foundation will dedicate a life size bronze likeness of Glenn Frey.
This wonderful addition to the Park is made possible by generous donations from KSLX Radio, the City of Winslow, and the Standin’ On The Corner Foundation.
KSLX Radio will be in attendance and host a live remote broadcast from the park.
Here is a brief summary of the events leading up to this dedication:
On January 18, 2016 I was reading the news and a flash came across the screen that stated Glenn Frey had died in New York City. I immediately began to scan all …the news outlets to see if it were true. I went to reach for my phone to call Diane Patterson when it rang and Diane was on the other end. We agreed to meet at the Standin’ on the Corner Park, shed some tears, have a drink and take some flowers and candles to start a memorial to Glenn Frey. Shayna Ward and Shauna Sullivan came down and the 4 of us set what became a great memorial. I took some pictures and sent them to my friends in the news and the associated press. Over the course of the next 24 hours we set a date and time for a memorial and the Standin’ on the Corner Foundation jumped on board. I spoke with friends of mine at KSLX 100.7. Mark Devine in the morning was especially excited to hear what we were doing. The memorial was covered by the AP and went worldwide, television, radio, newsprint, internet magazines, you name it, Winslow was on it for our memorial to Glenn Frey. People began coming from around the globe to pay their respects and visit our legendary park. After the event was over and we were still reeling from the shock of Glenn’s unexpected death I kept in contact with KSLX 100.7 Mark in the morning. He asked if we had any other plans to memorialize Glenn Frey, I stated we would love to capture his image in bronze but don’t have the funding so for this year we will dedicate the event to the memory of Glenn Frey. A couple days later I spoke to Mark again and this time he was asking if I knew any bronze artists. I gave him the names of four or five local artists and a couple from out of state. He called me back in a week or so and stated the best price he had on a life-size likeness was 22K. I told Mark we would love to do this but we are a 501 C 3 and don’t have that kind of money. Mark called me back about a week later and stated his boss Trip Reeb was very interested in seeing this come to life and he would give us the seed money of $15,000.00 to get this project off the ground. I then spoke to Steve Pauken at the city to ask for some help and of course the Standin’ on the Corner Foundation was agreeable. So with the incredible generosity of KSLX 100.7 FM, the City of Winslow and the Standin’ on the Corner Foundation we will have the dedication of a new life-size likeness of Glenn Frey in the park on Friday Sept 23, 2016 at 12:00. KSLX 100.7 FM will be in attendance and will host a live remote from the park. Invitations will be sent to the media to cover this dedication. I will also contact my friend Felicia at the AP. I hope we can get the coverage the dedication deserves and again breath some new life into our wonderful park and city. Thanks goes to Mark Devine and Trip Reeb at KSLX, Steve Pauken at the city and all the hard working volunteer members of the Standin’ on the Corner Foundation. Diane, Shayna and Shauna thank you for your help in getting this off the ground, you are awesome!
